A herringbone throw of alpaca and merino wool in soft grey, approx. 130 × 170 cm, with fine eyelash fringes.

“Mountain Haze” is a fine herringbone weave in a soft, misty grey. The ends are finished with short, fine fringes, the so-called eyelash fringe, which keeps the look light and tidy. It is one of our heavier throws, thick and generous.

Alpaca is light, soft and warm and contains no lanolin; merino wool gives the cloth a little more body, so it drapes with a pleasant weight.

Woven in Arequipa, Peru, at the foot of the Andes, in a mill that has worked with alpaca for more than 40 years. The cloth is woven on German and Italian looms, then fringed, mended and finished, and checked four times before it leaves.

It also makes a lovely gift.

130 × 170 cm, approx. · 60% alpaca, 40% wool · approx. 640 g · woven in Peru

Alpaca rarely needs washing: airing it usually freshens it, marks can be dabbed with cold water, and if it needs more, take it to a professional cleaner.

Alpacas in the Andes

Why alpaca?

  • Keeps you warmAlpaca fibre holds warmth well. A throw for cool evenings on the sofa or in bed.
  • Soft and smoothFine alpaca fibre feels smooth and silky. Many people find it softer than sheep’s wool.
  • No lanolinUnlike sheep’s wool, alpaca contains no wool grease. The fibre feels dry and light.
  • Royal and baby are gradesRoyal alpaca is the finest grade (approx. 19–19.5 µm), baby alpaca the next finest (approx. 21–23 µm). It has nothing to do with the age of the animals.
Alpacas in the Andean highlands

From Peru

Woven in Peru

Alpacas live in the highlands of the Andes, where the days are warm and the nights bitterly cold. Their fleece is made for exactly that climate.

Our alpaca throws are woven in Peru, where alpaca has been worked for generations.

Each throw is then fringed, mended and finished, and checked four times before it is shipped.

Caring for alpaca

Everyday care

Alpaca needs very little care. Airing keeps it fresh and soft.

  • Air your throw outdoors or by an open window now and then, out of direct sun.
  • Give it a gentle shake.
  • Blot a spill straight away with cold water; don’t rub.

A deeper clean

If it needs more than airing, we recommend a professional cleaner.

  • No washing machine, not even on a wool cycle.
  • No tumble dryer. Let it dry flat in the air, away from radiators and direct sun.
  • Store it dry and airy, ideally with a little cedarwood in the wardrobe.

Questions about our alpaca throws

Short answers on alpaca, thickness and care.

What is royal alpaca?

The finest grade of alpaca fibre, about 19–19.5 µm. “Dune” and “Premium Cozy” are made of royal alpaca.

Does baby alpaca come from young animals?

No. Baby alpaca is a grade of fine, soft fibre (approx. 21–23 µm), not the age of the animals.

Which throw is the thickest?

“Valley” and “Mountain Haze” are the thickest thanks to the merino wool, and “Dune” is thick too. “Premium Cozy” is thin but very dense, which makes it pleasantly heavy. “Classic Bouclé” is thin and light.

What does alpaca & merino mean?

“Valley” and “Mountain Haze” are 60% alpaca and 40% wool, and that wool is merino. It gives the cloth more body and spring.

Is alpaca itchy?

Fine alpaca fibre is smooth and soft. Most people find it more pleasant on the skin than sheep’s wool.

How do I care for my alpaca throw?

Airing and a gentle shake are usually enough. Blot a spill with cold water. For a deeper clean, we recommend a professional cleaner.
