How to care for a wool blanket
Share
Wool is one of the easiest materials to live with. It stays fresh for a long time, and a little care keeps a good blanket soft and beautiful for years.
Everyday: air and shake
Air your blanket now and then, outside or by an open window, out of direct sunlight. Give it a good shake to lift the fibres. That is most of the care it will ever need.
A deeper clean: professional steam
When your blanket needs more than airing, we recommend a professional steam clean. It keeps the wool looking its best for the longest time. We don’t recommend a washing machine, not even on a wool cycle, or a tumble dryer.
A little pilling at first
New wool can pill a little in the first weeks, where it rubs most. It is simply short, loose fibres working to the surface. Lift them off gently with a fabric comb, and it soon settles.
Keeping moths away
Moths are drawn to what is on the wool, like skin oils and food traces, far more than to the wool itself. Store your blanket clean and dry, give it some air now and then, and a sprig of lavender in the cupboard is a lovely extra.
No ironing needed
Wool springs back into shape by itself, so there is never any need to iron it.
