Due to the shipping, the cowhide has to be folded to fit in a box. As a result, your cowhide may indeed contain creases. Don't worry about this. Within about 2 weeks, the creases will disappear due to the weight of the skin.
If you would like to have them removed quicker, please send an email to paula@northsheep.com to receive a video of how to safely iron the creases out.
It is very easy to maintain your cowhide, in our blog you can read the exact details about how to maintain your cowhide. See
We measure our skins and rugs in length and width, taking the longest part. You can find an explanatory grid under every product. Because it is very difficult to determine the exact size to the nearest centimeter, the size of the cowhides is rounded to the nearest number every 10cm.
All cowhides on our site are uniquely photographed. This means that you will indeed get the exact cowhide you see in the photo - Minimal colour differences may occur due to different light influences.
If there is an imprint in your cowhide from, for example, the table, then melt a closed bag of ice on the appropriate spot and comb that spot after the ice has melted. This way you can quickly get rid of the imprint.
At Northsheep all sheepskins are unique and this means that you will actually receive the skin in the photo - except for the sheepskins that have a decorative product image (e.g. the skin lying on a chair or on the floor), as these are all very similar to each other. The colour in real life may be slightly different to the photo due to the exposure in the photo. However, we are often told by our customers that the sheepskin is even more beautiful in real life than in the photo.
Sheep are very dense, which ensures that the weight of your body is evenly distributed over the skin when you use a sheepskin on a chair or bed, for example. Because of this property, a sheepskin actually has the benefit of reducing pain when sitting for long periods of time. Think, for example, of a long car journey, rehabilitation in a wheelchair or an office job.
A sheepskin can certainly be used by pets, they even love it, and we have heard many positive experiences. Tip. Animals love the short-haired (non-Icelandic) sheepskins more.
Naturally coloured sheepskins do not discolour in the sun and are therefore ideal for your garden set, for example. Unfortunately, coloured sheepskins do discolour, which is why it is also recommended to protect them from the sun. If we offer coloured sheepskins, then it will be indicated in the product description.
This can happen with some sheepskins, but don't worry. Everyone also perceives the odour of the skins differently.
All our sheepskins come straight from the tannery, which means that they are still very fresh. The wool fibres still contain moisture, so the fur may still have an odour. However, when the skin is completely dry, the odour should disappear. If you want to get rid of the odour faster, you can use baking soda or bicarbonate of soda, which absorbs the moisture in the wool fibres and thus ensures that the skin dries faster. You should leave the baking soda/baking powder in the sheepskin for at least 24 hours and then vacuum or simply shake it out. It should then smell less or not at all. It also helps to place the skin in a warm place (such as a wood-burning stove).
If it is still very damp outside, the odour may well intensify if you want to air the fur outside.
You can also clean the skin with a special wool shampoo (available online). Please follow the instructions for use. Please do not allow the sheepskin to come into contact with liquids, as this can cause it to become hard and deform.
