1-ply or 2-ply: which one is for you?

Our blankets have soft wool woven into a fine, elastic base that holds it in place. A 1-ply blanket has one layer, so it is lighter and drapes easily. A 2-ply blanket has two layers joined together, so it feels fuller and warmer. On some 2-ply blankets both sides are wool, on others the back is soft cotton. The exact make-up is listed on each blanket's page.

Caring for your wool

Everyday care

Wool needs very little care. Airing it now and then keeps it fresh, soft and light.

  • Air it outside or by an open window now and then, out of direct sunlight.
  • Give it a good shake to lift the fibres.

A deeper clean

When it needs more than airing, we recommend a professional steam clean. It keeps your wool looking its best for the longest time.

  • We don’t recommend a washing machine, not even on a wool cycle.
  • We don’t recommend a tumble dryer either. Let it dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sun.
  • No ironing needed. Wool springs back into shape by itself.
  • A professional steam clean every 6 to 12 months keeps it soft and beautiful.

The wool

Does merino wool itch?

Most people find merino lovely and soft. Merino fibres are very fine, so they bend against your skin instead of prickling. Our cashmere blend is the softest of all.

What is the difference between merino, camel and cashmere?

Merino is soft, light and easy to live with. The camel blend is our warmest, with a fuller feel. The cashmere blend is the silkiest and smoothest on the skin. All three are lovely, so it comes down to how you like your blanket to feel.

Why is a base listed in the composition?

The wool is woven into a fine, elastic mesh that holds it in place. The soft surface you touch is wool, and the mesh keeps it strong and in shape.

Living with it

Can I use it all year round?

Yes. Wool breathes and takes up moisture, so it feels cosy on cold days without getting stuffy in milder weather.

Does new wool smell?

A new wool piece can have a light, natural wool smell at first. It fades after a day or two of airing.

Will it pill?

A little fluff can appear on the surface at first. It is loose fibres working their way out, and it settles with use. A fabric comb lifts it off in seconds.

How do I clean it?

Mostly by airing and shaking it. When it needs more, we recommend a professional steam clean. It keeps your wool looking its best for the longest time. We don’t recommend a washing machine, not even on a wool cycle.

Choosing

Which blanket size do I need?

Think about where it will go. A small blanket is lovely for a child or an armchair, a throw drapes nicely over the sofa or the end of the bed, and a large blanket covers a double bed. The size selector shows each size with its measurements.

Is the merino mulesing-free?

Yes. Our manufacturer confirms in writing that its merino wool comes from non-mulesed sheep.

Does wool make a good gift?

One of the best. A wool blanket or a pair of merino slippers is used every day, feels special and lasts for years.
