Our reindeer hides come from Finland, where reindeer herding has been part of life in the north for centuries. The hides are a by-product of that herding. Reindeer grow a thick winter coat of hollow hairs to keep out the cold, and that is exactly what makes these hides so warm and so soft to sit on.
Every reindeer hide has its own pattern. That is what makes each one special.

Does a reindeer hide shed?
A little, yes. Reindeer hair is hollow, which is what makes it so warm and light, and it also means some hairs break off, especially in the first weeks. Give it a shake outdoors now and then and it stays beautiful.

Where does a reindeer hide look best?
Over an armchair, along a bench, across the end of a bed or on a wall. It is a decorative hide, so it stays at its best in a spot that is not walked on all day. For a busy floor, a cowhide is a lovely choice.
How do I clean it?
Shake it outdoors now and then. Vacuum gently with the beater bar switched off, or simply brush it by hand.
We don’t recommend washing or soaking a reindeer hide. Water can make the leather stiff and loosen the hair.
