What size cowhide rug do I need?

Most of our cowhides are about 200 to 240 cm long. That is a generous size, and it works beautifully in most rooms. Here is where each part of that range shines.

Living room

In front of a sofa, a hide of around 200 to 220 cm long anchors the seating without covering the whole floor. With a coffee table, let the table sit on the hide with a generous border of hide around it: it ties the table and the sofa together.

Bedroom

Beside the bed, lay the hide along one side so your first step every morning lands on it, or across the foot of the bed for a generous, cosy look.

Dining room

Under a dining table, choose a larger hide, ideally 220 cm and up, so the chairs stay on the hide when you pull them out a little.

Hallway and study

In a hallway, a hide adds warmth and pattern right where you walk in. Under a desk, it softens the room and feels lovely underfoot.

The masking-tape trick

Before you order, mark the length and the width of the hide on your floor with masking tape. Remember the hide has a natural outline with legs, so it covers a little less than the full rectangle. Walk around it, pull out a chair, open the door: in a minute you will know it is right.
