Material and quality
A real, full cowhide from Brazil, tanned and finished there. Brazilian hides are known for their size, their short, dense hair and their beautiful natural patterns.
The hair side is smooth and hard-wearing. The underside is soft, natural leather, so the hide lies flat and feels good underfoot.
Care
A cowhide is easy to look after. Shake it out now and then, and vacuum it in the direction of the hair with the beater bar switched off. Blot a spill straight away with a barely damp cloth, and let it dry away from heat. Turn the hide every few months so it wears evenly, and keep it out of strong, direct sunlight to keep the colours at their best.
We don’t recommend washing, soaking or steam cleaning a cowhide. Water and heat can make the leather stiff.
Where it comes from
Our cowhides come from Brazil. The cattle are raised there, most of them outdoors on open pasture, and the hides are tanned and finished in Brazil too.
Every hide is a by-product of the meat industry, so no animal is raised for its hide. We buy direct from the tannery, which treats its own water on site.

Brazil has one of the largest cattle herds in the world, and most of those cattle graze outdoors on open pasture. Brazilian hides are known for their size, their short, dense hair and their natural patterns. We travel there to choose ours, so every hide we send is one we are proud of.
No two cowhides are ever alike. That is the beauty of a natural hide.

My cowhide has fold lines. Is that normal?
Yes, completely. A cowhide is folded for delivery, so it usually arrives with a few fold lines. Lay it flat and they relax by themselves within about two weeks.
Would you like it flat sooner? Get in touch and we will send you a short video that shows how.
My table left a mark in the hair. What now?
Easy to fix. Put a sealed bag of ice on the mark and let the ice melt. Dab away any moisture, then brush the hair up with your hand or a soft brush. The mark disappears.
Is a cowhide good with pets?
Yes, and many pets love lying on one. The short hair does not hold on to dust and pet hair the way a deep rug does, so it is easy to keep clean.
